Almost November...yikes!

Reminder, no school for students on Friday, October 30th!

MATH- I have finished marking Unit 1 Math quizzes. Your son/daughter will get theirs back tomorrow. We are working on the second half of the unit, and students can expect the Unit test to be sometime in the next couple of weeks. If you son/daughter did not do as well on their quiz as they anticipated, I will be available for extra Math help tomorrow at 12:25 and Wednesday at 12:25. It is up to your son/daughter to come see me at this time if they would like the extra help.

LANGUAGE ARTS-
Reminder that our Expository Newspaper articles are due Thursday, October 27th
October Reader Response- Due Friday, November 6th

HEALTH- On Tuesday, October 20th, students were given a food log in accordance with Canada's Food Guide. Their job was to keep track of the food they ate during a 5 day period. Their 5 day food log is due tomorrow! Tomorrow we are moving onto Eating Disorders with Nurse Megan from SafeShip.

SCIENCE/PRATCICAL ARTS- We are building up our skills in order to complete an Energy Racer! Students were asked to bring an empty Kleenex box from home because they are creating a balloon powered vehicle. They are working in assigned pairs and are logging/designing their cars in their Energy Journals. My apologies to those of you who had kids come home and start emptying full Kleenex boxes!!

RELIGION- We are focusing right now on how God is the perfect parent and are creating a class book to represent this! It will be completed for 3-Way Conferences if you would like to have a look.

GYM- We finished up our Soccer Unit with a mini class World Cup tournament. Team Brazil came back from a 4th place seeding to win the entire thing! It was great to see the students compete while being respectful and showing sportsmanship towards one another.

October 7th 2015

WOW! I cannot believe we are a week into October.
Here's what is going on in our class right now.

Students were given their Unit 2 Integer tests on Friday October 2nd. Please sign and return the test ASAP!

October Reader Response- Students were given their next book report and it will be due Friday, November 6th!

Language Arts- We are starting to wrap up our Courage- Doing the Right Thing Unit. Students were given their final project. It is an expository newspaper writing assignment on a courageous person of their choice. They have researched someone in history, past or present, who has made an positive impact in the lives of others.  They will have class time to complete this assignment, but what does not get finished in class will have to get finished at home. A due date has not been decided yet. As a class we went over a rubric so students are fully aware what they will be marked on. They have a copy of this rubric with their assignment! I am really excited to see their work on these.

Art - Warm/Cool trees- Due Tuesday October 13th

We are working through Unit 1 in Math (Patterns and Relations).

Science- Heat Review- Due Wednesday, October 14th

Health- Our "Rotting Food" experiment is in full swing. Ask your son or daughter about which foods we are looking at and what changes they have noticed.

I am away this afternoon and tomorrow, but will still have access to email if you need to get ahold of me.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
