Monday, November 23rd

I cannot believe that next week we are into December already...yikes!

I anticipate that I will see most of you at 3-Way Conferences later this week, so if you have any questions about any bits of blog information I can clarify then! If you still have not signed up for a conference time and would like to, you need to get in touch with Joan at the front office.

If you know that your son/daughter will be away into December, please let me know as soon as you can!

MATH- We have finished up Unit 1: Patterns and Relations. I am almost finished marking their exams. Students will have their exams for conferences as this mark is going to be on their report cards.
We have started Unit 6: Equations. It is a short unit, so there will be no mid-unit quiz, just a unit exam. This unit will be completed before Christmas.

RELIGION- We will be putting together our "God as the Perfect Parent" class book this week.

We recently read a wonderful story about a chicken and an eagle. Students have been collaging how the moral of the story relates to their lives. You will hear about this during their 3-Way Conference.

As a class we discussed the importance of Service and brainstormed ideas of how we could serve people in the Saskatoon community who needed a little "extra" in their lives. We will be volunteering our time at St. Joseph's Senior Care Home on the morning of Tuesday, December 15th. The residents and Sisters are very excited that we are coming!

SOCIAL STUDIES- Students have a test Wednesday, November 25th!

HEALTH- Nurse Megan has been working with our class through Healthy Eating and First Aid. Students have a First Aid Quiz tomorrow, Tuesday, November 24th.

Nurse Megan's last day with us is Tuesday, December 1st. As a way to say thank you for all of her work with our class, we are planning a "Healthy Food" Potluck that will take place over lunch hour. Students have picked a relatively healthy recipe based on what they learned during our Healthy Eating unit, and the idea is that they create their recipe to bring for our potluck. Students do not need to bring large quantities of their recipe, just enough so everyone can get a little sample of their item. I will provide cutlery.  We are lucky in our class that we do not have any severe food allergies, but please keep in mind others in the building do.

Our final project will be a collection of the recipes students created.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

SCIENCE- We are back in the textbook. We will be wrapping up Unit 3- Heat and Temperature before Christmas break. Students will NOT have a unit test. Instead, they will be designing a cooler that has to keep popsicles frozen for 3 hours during the school day. If their design is successful, they will get to eat their popsicles. They may need to bring desired materials from home that I cannot provide for them from school.

We also have a Solar Energy Pizza Oven workshop taking place Wednesday, December 2nd all morning in our class! I still am not sure what this will totally entail, but we're hoping it will involve eating pizza.

LANGUAGE ARTS- We have started a Mystery unit with Renee our Teacher Librarian. Students will get to try their hand at acting, and they will be writing their own mystery narrative.

GYM- We are focusing on volleyball! Most students play on the Junior Boys and Junior Girls teams, so they have been getting lots of volleyball for the  month of November. In December we will be shifting gears into a Fitness Unit.
