February 24th

Yikes! A month since my last post. I have been keeping in touch via email, but this will give you a better idea of what we are doing in class!

Math- We started Unit 5- Operations With Fractions- on Monday. Students have been given their Extra Practice booklets to work through as we go through the unit. Please spend time with your son/daughter going through these questions. It is imperative that students do not try to complete these booklets the night before a test. It is meant to aid them in their unit lessons and give them an idea where they may need more help. Again, Extra Practice books will be due the day of the exam, and count for 5 marks out of their total test score.

Science- We are still working through Interactions with Ecosystems. Our vermicompost is doing well, and the students are taking weekly turns on worm duty!
We are also working on an inquiry project. Our guiding question is "What Can I Do To Improve My Watershed." Ask your son/daughter what idea their group has came up with and if you are unfamiliar with what a watershed is, have them explain it to you! Amanda Burton from the Meewasin Watershed program has been working with our class to help develop these ideas and teach the student what a watershed is. There are some fantastic ideas! Students also have the chance to win some cool prizes if their proposal gets picked.
Our tomato seeds have also been shipped and should arrive shortly.

Religion- We are working through Fully Alive. We also will be putting on a Lenten Liturgy #3 on March 3rd at 2:45 with the Grade 4s from Mrs. Huel/Knoblach's class.

Language Arts- We are working through Touching Spirit Bear . Cole has now returned to the island. Students did a fantastic job during their mock trials! The final project students will be completing at the end of the novel is to create a movie trailer if the  novel was to become a film. We will be going over apps/programs that the students can use to bring this to life as well as critiquing movie trailers from films the kids are familiar with to see what needs to go into their trailer for this project.

Students received their February Reader Responses. This will be due March 23rd.

Health- We are going through Fully Alive theme Three: Created Sexual- Male and Female. Nurse Nick with SAFESHIP has been teaching the students every Tuesday and I am supplementing the rest.

Gym- We are into a little March Madness basketball tournament. It will end next week and we will continue with a short fitness unit leading up to Easter. After the break we will begin badminton.
