Wednesday, April 6th

Last three months of Grade 7! Wow time has flown by. We have lots to do before the school year wraps up.

MATH- We have started Unit 4 Circles and Area. Your son/daughter has their Extra Practice book to continue to work on throughout the unit. I will email the answer key so they have the option to correct at home with you. It is important that they begin to memorize the formulas we have covered for radius, diameter, and circumference.

SCIENCE- We have started our Unit Mixtures and Solutions. Students had the opportunity to participate in a hands on activity mixing various kitchen items and recording their observations/predictions. We have covered lab safety/expectations and WHIMIS. Before the break your son/daughter submitted a Watershed Proposal. We are still waiting to hear back if anyone from 7M won!

RELIGION- We are continuing to work through Fully Alive and will be looking more closely at the Alpha series that we started before the break. During the month of March our class put on two liturgies. The students did a fantastic job setting up, reading, and being leaders. Thank you to those parents that were able to make it.

HEALTH- Nurse Nick with Safeship had his last day in our class this week. He covered a variety of topics with the kids, including: prenatal development, puberty, and HIV/AIDS. We are going to continue with Fully Alive Theme 3, and after that is completed we are going to examine and demonstrate personal commitment in making health decisions related to the various topics we have covered throughout the year (healthy eating, drug and alcohol awareness, relationships with others, blood-borne pathogens)

LANGUAGE ARTS- Students have been working on their Book Trailer for Touching Spirit Bear.
They have had the opportunity to work on this Monday, and will get time again on Friday. Majority of the work will be done outside of school, as it is not realistic for me to give them an hour everyday to film/compose/edit their trailers. We are beginning a Unit titled "Doing Our Part for Planet Earth" where students will have to critically think about how we depend on the environment and the implications associated with it. They are currently working on a prayer or poem that includes an illustration demonstrating the gratitude students have towards our Earth. They are drawing inspiration from four First Nations children's books that give thanks for the Earth.

GYM- We have started our Badminton Unit. We went through a information package together. Reminder- Badminton booklet is due Tuesday, April 12th.
